Two-a-Days

Greetings from STILL WATERS FARM AND GARDENS. During these long hot summer days, flower farming is in full swing and much like a football team, we run “two-a-days” with our harvesting.  Our first harvest begins as the sun is just cresting over the horizon (or at least we hope to start that early, but usually after the first cup of coffee). We move through the different garden areas as quickly as we can, selecting greenery 🌿 and blooms 🌻 ready for harvesting. We cut, strip and hydrate each flower in a race to beat the increasing sunshine and heat. After we reach the top of the perspiration scale (at least 80% of our attire has been drenched), we head indoors to cool down, rehydrate and change our uniforms. When the heat of the day passes and the sun begins to descend below the tree line, we embark on the second harvest of the day. Much like the morning harvest, we end up soaked from the late day humidity and eagerly look forward to getting cleaned up. In the end, Summer days are just for a season and they pass quickly. On a final note, remember your local flower farms this month as July is American Grown Flowers Month.
